As we near the end of the year, we at Amour Caché look back on  heartfelt and impactful moments that have made a mark on us personally this past Fall and Winter season, particularly with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As you may know with our story, this cause holds a special place in our hearts, and this year, we had the privilege of not only raising funds for a life-changing organization but also directly connecting with survivors and allies through meaningful initiatives.

Partnering with Knitted Knockers Alberta

Throughout October, we partnered with Knitted Knockers Alberta, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing handmade, lightweight breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other breast surgeries. Unlike traditional prosthetics, which can be heavy, uncomfortable, and expensive, Knitted Knockers offers soft, malleable options that fit comfortably into regular bras. Their efforts are a testament to the power of grassroots initiatives to restore dignity and confidence to breast cancer survivors.

As part of this collaboration, we donated 10% of all website sales during October to Knitted Knockers Alberta. These funds are helping the organization cover essential costs like high-quality yarn, shipping expenses, and outreach efforts to ensure their prosthetics are accessible to as many women as possible.

Empowering Survivors Through Representation

A particularly memorable highlight of November was a photoshoot we organized with a dear friend and survivor, Tia Moore, who graciously modeled for us. Tia experienced Stage 3B Inflammatory Breast Cancer, chemotherapy, 19 rounds of radiation, and a non-skin-sparing double mastectomy. In 2023, Tia was crowned Miss Inspirational in her first Mrs. Calgary beauty pageant. This year, she is preparing to compete in the pageant again.

During our shoot, Tia wore Amour Caché lingerie, paired with Knitted Knockers prostheses, showcasing how these incredible creations offer both comfort and flexibility.

What makes Knitted Knockers prosthetics so remarkable is their adaptability. Tia was able to easily adjust the size of her prostheses to fit her outfits and lingerie styles during the shoot. Whether it was for a more casual look or a fitted, supportive lingerie piece, the soft and malleable nature of the prostheses ensured a seamless fit. This versatility is a game-changer for survivors, allowing them to feel confident and beautiful, no matter the occasion.

The photoshoot wasn’t just about creating beautiful images—it was a celebration of resilience, empowerment, and the artistry of lingerie that’s inclusive and supportive. It was also a way to showcase the possibilities of pocketed bras, like those from Amour Caché, which are specifically designed to accommodate prostheses.

Engaging with the Community

In addition to online efforts, we connected with our local community in Calgary, where our cofounder is based and frequently hosts in-person pop-up events. During the Woman's Expo in Calgary, we gave away free Amour Caché pocketed bras to survivors who attended. These bras are crafted with soft, breathable materials and a thoughtful design, ensuring a comfortable and supportive option for women post-surgery.

The Expo was a powerful reminder of the importance of in-person engagement. Meeting survivors, hearing their stories, and offering them tangible support reinforced our commitment to creating lingerie that serves women at every stage of their lives.

Why Knitted Knockers Matters

Knitted Knockers Alberta isn’t just about making prosthetics; it’s about making a difference. Their team of volunteers carefully crafts each breast form with love, using soft and lightweight materials that prioritize comfort. The prostheses are free, ensuring accessibility for all women, and are available in a range of sizes to accommodate different needs.

One of the most impactful aspects of their initiative is how these prosthetics can transform the lives of survivors. By offering an alternative to heavy, costly traditional prosthetics, Knitted Knockers restores confidence and comfort, making everyday life a little bit easier for the women they serve.

Lingerie as a Tool for Empowerment

At Amour Caché, we believe lingerie isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about empowerment. Pocketed bras, like those we donated during the Woman’s Expo, are designed with survivors in mind, offering a thoughtful blend of function, support, and style. The combination of Knitted Knockers prostheses and Amour Caché lingerie represents the possibilities of inclusive design: beautiful, functional pieces that cater to the unique needs of all women.
